Smashbox Fall 09: Reign

Smashbox Cosmetics has unveiled a make-up collection fit for royalty, with its Reign autumn/winter 2009 colour cosmetics line. Inspired by the rule of the English Tudors, the products aim to reflect the “salacious scandal, regal indulgence and lavish extravagance” the noble class enjoyed during this era. The line is described as luxe, sexy and indulgently sensorial.

Key items include the Eye Shadow Palette (US$42) and the Jet Set Palette (US$48). The former contains a trio of shadows, each part shimmer/part matte, to help consumers create a complete eye look. The available shades are Majesty (Champagne, fuchsia and black) and Monarch (gold, copper and brown). The Jet Set Palette contains four shades of Smashbox’s Jet Set eye liner (matte black, matte dark brown, gold and metallic brown), plus a mini Arced Liner Brush. All three palettes feature an integral mirror and faux-leather packaging embossed with a Smashbox crest.

That motif is echoed in gold on the embossed outer brown packaging. Other items include Fusion Blush in Regal (US$32), Lash DNA Mascara (US$19) in Plum, Lip Gloss (US$18) in Crowned – a shimmering peachy pink – and Doubletake Lip Color (US$22) in Currant and Amaretto.

Clarins Super Restroative Foundation True Lift SPF 15

Clarins launches Super Restorative Foundation True Lift SPF15 targeted to 50 and older woman seeking for natural coverage. These are said to trap cold wavelengths ranging from blue to green, which can make the complexion look lacklustre and dull, and transform them into warm wavelengths (ranging from pink to golden yellow), which illuminate and rejuvenate. A 100% mineral screen provides an SPF15. The formula also incorporates Clarins’ Expertise 3P Complex, which claims to protect skin against the harmful effects of pollution and dehydration. Super Restorative Foundation True Lift SPF15 is available in six shades (10 in US markets). It is presented in a 30ml airless ivory bottle.

Clarins Launches New Foot Cream

Clarins has introduced a Foot Beauty Treatment Cream, said to soothe and comfort tired feet with dry skin. It features a rich, non-oily texture that glides over skin to nourish, smooth and repair feet from heel to toe, by relieving rough skin and perfecting toenails, according to Clarins. The formula contains five plant extracts, namely Cashew Nut Oil, Shea Butter, Arnica, Myrrh and Essential Oil of Thyme.
Virgin cashew-nut oil restores suppleness to skin. Shea butter smoothes away roughness while nourishing skin. Arnica helps feelings of fatigue and swelling. Myrrh strengthens and beautifies nails. Essential oil of thyme purifies skin. Laponite powder absorbs dampness.

Clarins Bust Care Duo

Clarins has also unveiled new bust care extensions, namely Bust Beauty Extra-Lift Gel and Bust Beauty Firming Lotion. “This segment performs especially well in Asia,” Heudier noted, “where such products feature in our top 20 best-sellers.”

Clarins claims to have increased its bust care products’ shaping and firming results by including an innovative plant extract within its two latest products, which are said to deliver a “natural bra” effect.

Bust Beauty Extra-Lift Gel – presented in a 50ml frosted pump-dispenser bottle –offers an immediate “lift”, thanks to its dual tightening and shaping effect. On application, the oil-free gel forms an invisible veil on the skin’s surface, which gives the bust line better hold and height, Clarins maintains. The product ensures this hold lasts by helping to reinforce the collagen structure and ensuring ideal skin hydration and smoothness.

Bust Beauty Firming Lotion, also presented in a 50ml glass pump-dispenser bottle, is described as a creamy, nourishing lotion that helps protect against skin slackening caused by age, pregnancy or changes in weight. It is said to smooth, comfort and enhance fragile skin on the décolleté area. The key ingredient in the new line is the Vu Sua fruit, which is used in traditional cuisine throughout South East Asia and the West Indies. It also inhibits glycation, protects against free radical damage and increases cellular energy.

In line with Clarins’ commitment to fair trade and sustainable development initiatives, the company buys up surplus fruit from the orchards around Vinh Him, a small village in the Mekong Delta, 130 km from Ho Chi Minh City. As a fair trade partner, Clarins has contributed to local development by financing a new nursery school that the village could no longer afford to support. Other key ingredients include Centella Asiatica, pomegranate, and Katafray.

Clarins High Definition Body Lift

The Clarins brand is building on its body care offer this semester with the global roll-out of a new slimming product, called High Definition Body Lift.

This is a major launch for us,” General Manager Travel Retail Worldwide Béatrice Heudier told The Moodie Report. “We are already very strong in the slimming segment, with around 50% market share. This new introduction will allow us to further grow that business.”

Clarins’ fifth-generation Body Lift treatment, High Definition Body Lift is described as an innovative formula, covered by three patents, that helps deliver perfectly smooth skin with visibly reduced signs of cellulite.

The product intensifies the lipolysis process in two new ways, according to the company. It opens up a newly-discovered barrier inside the adipocyte that slows down the release of excess fat; and it optimises caffeine absorption into the skin. Both help to release fat from even the most stubborn places, namely hips and thighs.

Key ingredients include caffeine, phospholipids from sunflowers, Blue Button Flower extract and Pycnogenol extracted from Maritime Pine.

But High Definition Body Lift goes even further than optimising excess fat release, Clarins maintains. Using the plant-based ingredients found in its previous body steamlining skincare, it also limits the formation of stored fat; slows down the spread of fatty tissue; and strengthens skin firmness.

For optimum results, the product should be applied using the Clarins Self-Massage Body Contouring Method, which is explained and illustrated in the booklet enclosed with the treatment. Clarins High Definition Body Lift is presented in a 200ml white bottle complete with valve dispenser system.

Clarins New Skincare Products

Clarins has updated its HydraQuench collection with three new products: HydraQuench Cream SPF15, HydraQuench Cream-Mask and HydraQuench Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm. The original collection, which was launched in 2008, is described as a self-adjusting line, suitable for all skin types, that protects variously from biting cold, blazing heat and all types of pollution. The range harnesses ingredients from Madagascar to the Arctic circle, to balance all skin types, in all climates, at all times, according to Clarins. Importantly, it features an hydrating action on four levels: the skin’s surface, in the corneal layer, the epidermis and the dermis.

A vital ingredient is Katafray bark extract, which is said to reinforce the skin’s barrier effect and boost the natural hydration mechanisms in the epidermis. The Katafray tree, found in the dry forests of Madagascar, is known for its phytotherapeutic properties. Its cultivation forms part of Clarins’ fair trade and sustainable development programme.

HydraQuench Cream SPF15 for Normal to Dry Skin – presented in a 50ml blue frosted glass jar – is described as a fine, high absorption cream that restores pH balance in normal to dry skin. As its name suggests, the formula also contains heat-resistant sun filters.

HydraQuench Cream-Mask for Dehydrated Skin (packaged in a 75ml tube) is a rich, creamy mask said to restore skin moisture levels in just five to 10 minutes. It can also be applied to the eye contour area.

HydraQuench Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm is claimed to deliver intensive relief for damaged lips, plus beauty benefits. The delicate pink texture adds a discreet shine to lips, to enhance their natural radiance. The formula contains essential rose wax that covers lips with a soothing, moisture-protecting film. The lip balm is packaged in a 15ml blue tube complete with specially-designed applicator tip.

Crème de la Mer New Additions!

Crème de la Mer has created 100ml limited-edition sizes of its Moisturizing Lotion and Oil Absorbing Lotion, complete with pump dispenser. They will be available in travel retail from June. Featuring lighter versions of the original formulas, the new line is said to be ideal for those who prefer their La Mer products in lotion form. The bigger size is also designed to last the whole summer season. Both Crème de la Mer lotions contain the same renowned Miracle Broth as the original Crème de la Mer formulation. They are rich with sea kelp, vitamins and nutrients that undergo a highly intensive three to four-month bio-fermentation process. The two lotion formulas are tailored to suit different skin types. Crème de la Mer The Moisturizing Lotion Grande 100ml with pump is said to provide maximum hydration for both normal and normal-to-dry skin types. Crème de la Mer The Oil Absorbing Lotion Grande 100ml with pump is an oil-free, oil-absorbing, fast-penetrating formulation that hydrates, yet leaves a soft matte finish for hours – perfect for normal-to-oily and oily skin types, according to the company.

Bvlgari Blv Eau de Parfum II

Next month, Bvlgari launches Blv Eau de Parfum II, a new fragrance for women fronted by model Laetitia Casta and “inspired by a modern vision of the colour blue”.

The fragrance, described as an expression of a new naturalness, was inspired by a modern vision of the colour blue, according to the company. It aims to represent a woman full of femininity, magnetism, harmony and grace.

The juice was created by Jacques Cavallier. “I wanted to make a great perfume; one not inspired by the transparency of the 1990s, but which embodied matter in the Bvlgari style, with richness, presence and a great sophistication,” he explained. “This is a positive, reassuring fragrance, able to bring opposites together.”

Consequently, head notes of violet, star anise, liquorice and mandarin give way to a floral heart of iris absolute and patchouli, offset by Haitian vetiver. The base is a sensual accord of three amber notes, benzoin, ambergris and cistus flower, finished with tones of musk.
The glass/silver flacon alternates geometric shapes and curvy surfaces. The cap is engraved with an updated version of the signature Bvlgari-Bvlgari double logo.

Bvlgari Blv Eau de Parfum II will be available as a 30ml, 50ml and 75ml, plus a 200ml Bath & Shower Gel and a 200ml Body Lotion.

Fourreau Noir is the second latest perfume by Serge Lutens to be launched on September 1, 2009. It will be an exclusive to the Salons Shiseido at the Palais Royal in Paris. Perfume lovers in the US unofficially like to dub this both maddening and highly desirable preserve the "bell-jar perfumes" in reference to the shape of the flacons and with a tone of longing for it is less than easy to procure them outside of the European Union. Like each year, a limited-edition number of decorated bell jars (pictured above) will be available for collectors. 3 Greasepaint sticks. Of the Greasepaint sticks, one is the black one from Style Black, the others are rumoured to be a sheer black with unique undertones. One undertone is a bright blue violet and one is a bright yellow blue. These are said to give a sheen of colour.
