NYFW S/S '10: SEPHORA @ Rebecca Minkoff

The inspiration was all about a throwback to the 90s, reminiscent of Peter Lindbergh’s black and white photographs. The makeup was ultramatte with brownish taupe eyes and a strong brow. Although the look was 90s, there were hints to other decades. “No matter what period, there are certain looks that are timeless. We didn’t use new shapes or textures, just mostly enhanced what’s already there,” Jose Riviera said.

For eyes, Jose Riviera used matte neutral tones, starting with a nude shadow all over the lids, then gradually layering darker taupe and brownish shades to enhance the natural shape of the eyes. Cheeks were peachy, and luckily for all of us who want to re-create this look, the color “compliments almost anyone,” said Jose. Lips were Twiggy-esque pinky brown, with translucent powder on top to block out shine. And for the main attraction – those ultrathick brows – Jose used a brow brush to sweep upward. Then he filled them in with a brow pencil, again moving upward in “hairlike” strokes for a full, structured look.
