After six years designing gorgeous dresses for the Hollywood set, why try your hands at makeup?
GC/KC: When creating the collections for our shows, we always found that makeup played an integral part in the completion of the overall look and feel of the season. It was important for us that our makeup line reflect the same level of craftsmanship synonymous with Marchesa, and Le Métier was the ideal partner for this. We had always loved their products, both for their fantastic quality as well as their unique aesthetic appeal.

How did you arrive at the range in its final incarnation?
We really just opened up our own makeup bags and decided which items we couldn’t live without. Once we decided on what these basics were, we spent hours trying on an endless rainbow of colors and finishes to develop palettes that would work for a broad range of looks as well as day-to-day coverage. We decided on these particular combos because they worked for all our beauty needs.

As far as the general inspiration for the new line, what was your main goal with the palettes, the lip duos, and the pens?
We have very chaotic schedules that require us to consistently get ready on the go, so our ideal product was one that could encompass everything you needed for a complete look (concealer/powder/shadow/lip) in one slim, easy-to-carry package. The slim palettes, highlighting pens, and lip duos are so compact that they can come with you anywhere you go, and the colors are perfect for creating both day and night looks. You can literally be ready at a moment’s notice and still have time to spare to pick out your outfit—what more could we ask for?!

Lancome Holiday 2010: L'Wren Scott

Come November, designer L’Wren Scott’s collaboration with Lancome will launch. The line includes nail polish ($14.50), lipstick ($29.00), lipgloss ($29.00), eyeshadow palette ($42.00), and mascara ($24.50).

“The first thing I thought of was that I wanted to do my signature red — my bordeaux,” explained Scott, who worked with Lancôme’s artistic director for makeup, Aaron De Mey, on the capsule collection, which includes a red lipstick, lip gloss and nail polish, among other items.

Scott said she told Lancôme executives, “I would like to try to interpret a red lipstick that could be worn from day to night.” Proffering a makeup-stained hand from earlier demonstrations, she showed how the lipstick can look sheer or dark, depending on its application. “And when you put the gloss on, it takes on a whole other life,” said Scott. — WWD

Barielle Fall 2010: Style in Argyle

Barielle is launching a Style In Argyle collection, rife with polishes in rich autumn-inspired shades to match the chunky sweaters and plaid shirts that are popular for Fall 2010.

"For that warm autumn look, color coordinate your nail color with your make up. Pair lighter day shades with the soft mushroom taupe Cowl of the Wild, and russet colors for evening using the plum brown crème, Tight Knit," says celebrity manicurist Pippa Hebden.

Benefit Fall 2010

Girl Meets Pearl ($30) is described as a “liquid pearl for the face.” The formula and texture is similar to That Gal but it instead has a shimmery, golden pink tone. It can be used as a primer before foundation to give skin a lit-from-within glow or over makeup as a highlighter to add radiance and bring out your best features. It smells like raspberries.

Magic Ink ($20) is Benefit’s first liquid liner in a ultra jet black. It's “the easiest liquid liner in the world” to work with has small, fine brush to apply the intense colour easily.

Prrrowl ($28) is dual-ended product with an iridescent mascara topcoat on one end and a shimmering lip gloss on the other. The topcoat is a glittery peacock-blue that goes on over your favorite mascara. It makes lashes twinkle when the lights hit them. The gloss is a baby doll pink with tiny flecks of blue.

Estee Lauder Nail Polishes for Spring 2011

Nail guru Jin Soon Choi will be making her second appearance backstage to provide pro manis and pedis with a new polish from the New York makeup giant’s forthcoming Relaunch Collection. Beginning next March, Estée Lauder will be debuting a range of eight permanent and eight limited-edition lacquers that brings back discontinued old favorites and introduces new colors—all with its True Vision Technology that wraps concentrated pigments into a crystalline laminate for a multi-dimensional look.

The NARS Pure Matte campaign, photographed by Creative Director and Founder François Nars, features Canadian model Heather Marks. Under Nars’s direction, makeup artist Diane Kendal designed a makeup look that emphasized a bold and matte lip. The end result is audacious, sultry and sophisticated.

Kendal began by applying Siberia Sheer Matte Foundation to the center of the face and blended outward. Vanilla Concealer masked imperfections. Snow Loose Powder was pressed into skin and the Botan Brush buffed away excess powder. Using the Yachiyo Brush, she applied Desire Blush to the apples of the cheeks and blended up towards the temples. For the eyes, Abyssinia Single Eyeshadow was brushed onto the lids with the Eyeshader Brush, followed by Blondie Single Eyeshadow into the crease with the Large Dome Brush to achieve depth. The inner corners were highlighted with the left side of All About Eve Duo Eyeshadow using the Eye Contour Brush. Iceberg Eyeliner Pencil lined the inner membrane of the lower lash line and Nuits Blanches Eyeliner Stylo created an impactful upper lash line. Brows were defined by applying Blondie Single Eyeshadow with the Brow Brush. To complete the look, two coats of Larger than Life Lengthening Mascara were applied to the lashes. Jungle Red Lipliner Pencil was used to define the shape of the lips. To create the luscious matte hue, Vesuvio Pure Matte Lipstick was swiped directly onto the lips.
